Building a life in Durham

Born and raised in the South, Chelsea has always been drawn to cities where people continue the legacies of activism, community-building, and creativity. After graduating from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill with a dual bachelor’s degree in Public Policy and Women’s Studies, Chelsea felt a strong pull to Durham. For the past thirteen years, leaving only to attend Stanford Law School, Durham has been Chelsea’s home base: a place of deep connection and community. Chelsea has waited tables, farmed, driven for Uber, hosted Passover Seders, taken art classes, baked pies, seeded gardens, suffered losses, defended clients at risk of losing their homes, volunteered, worshiped, fostered animals, made friends across socioeconomic backgrounds, and, most recently, gotten married to their spouse, Mike, all in this amazing city. When asked by clients and friends to step into the role of Durham City Council, Chelsea could think of no better way to serve the City they love.
